NOT MANY SECRETS LEFT IN WESTSIDE VILLAGE
If you think you are safe from prying eyes in your back yard, think again.
This image is from the newly expanded Google map site.

We wanted to visit the top of the historic Moreton Bay fig tree at St. John's Church on National Blvd. we clicked here; then chose Satellite, enlarged the map by clicking three times on the + button, and voilà! got the seldom-seen
hawks'-eye view at the top.

WVCA BOARD HAS MET ITS GOALS, PREXY SAYS
The board of the Westside Village Civic Assn., which is the homeowners' group for the Village, has met the three goals it established for itself last year, President Tracy Marsh reports in the February issue of the WVCA bulletin.

1. "Increase our communication to and from the neighborhood community."

Marsh cited the establishment of a new Web site, www.WestsideVillage.org, as an example of what has been done in the past year.

She said the site will become "the new 'virtual community hub' for our neighborhood assn., a source for information about events and issues relevant to our area."

Director Don Elliot was in charge of "researching and setting up this great-looking Web site."

2. "Increase the visibility of our activities within the community through the effortsof a newly formed Neighborhood Improvement Committee."

WVCA Director Arnie Lifset is the chair of the
committee, which, Marsh said, "sponsored and co-organized the two community tree plantings along Palms Blvd. in conjunction with resident and former board member Lisa Cahill."

"Additionally, we had our second annual Westside Village Festival in October at St. John's Church. Attendees enjoyed displays from local artisans, great food and drinks, a bicycle-decorating contest, community informational displays, and even a little karaoke!"

3. "Establish a budget committee and process."

The new committee "developed and tracked a sustainable budget that sought an appropriate balance between reinvestment in the community and savings for future events," Marsh said.

What's ahead? Greater community involvement, Marsh wrote in the newsletter.

"Our efforts have just scratched the surface of possibilities for our great neighborhood," she said.

She urged eligible residents (occupants of single-family homes) to volunteer for the board by e-mailing her at wvcaprez@comcast.net.
