BOTTLE-BRUSH TREES ARE GETTING BRUSHED OFF
New foliage would be planted in their place

A move is afoot to replace the bottle-brush trees on Motor Ave. with something a little more leafy and upscale.

Motor Avenue merchants are reportedly in favor of the idea, but a hearing on the scheme is still not scheduled.

The tree upgrading was one of the ideas floated by the so-called Motor Avenue Improvement Assn. in 2007. The association was formed by Lee Wallach, whose office is at 3424 Motor Ave., ostensibly to improve the entire avenue between Pico and Washington Blvds.

For a time graduate student Krista Colson acted as spokesperson for the group at Palms Neighborhood Council meetings, but nothing has been heard from the association since Colson went back to school more than a year ago. Nor from Wallach either, for that matter.
