WAS THERE A FIRE AT HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL?

I have a question when you get time to answer.

I went to Hamilton High School. Did Hamilton High have a fire? I know this is going to sound strange, but I dreamed about my old school and there had been a fire or something, and part of the front facade was being rebuilt or HAD been rebuilt.

In the same dream I dreamed of the old library on Woodbine down the way from Palms Elementary School and that it was no longer there. Of course I already knew about that.

I know this sounds strange, but many times my dreams will either come true or have already happened and I'm just catching up to the news.

[Editor's note: We haven't heard of any fires at Hamilton High School, and the last time we looked, the venerable old buildings were as stately as ever.]

ON PARKS, FENCES AND THE GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

Our Mar Vista Park director, Laura Beck, says City of LA is making changes in what individual parks can do. (Obviously bigger and more complex than that).

Our MV Park Advisory Board lead, Jerry Horno, says that they had already set up a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit as a Friends of Mar Vista Park. I was wondering if that is something Palms has done. And if you had any thoughts on the matter.

I've Googled and found some other places, like San Diego, who have really built a pretty supportive organization. Having been to the Griffith Observatory ribbon-cutting, I heard how their small Friends of started out with a little, and ultimately raised $93 million (that included state funds). It was interesting to hear some of the Friends describe their startup, and eventual success. (It's a wondrous place).

Mar Vista Park is getting a lot of attention. [City Councilman] Bill Rosendahl is having a forum on Nov 29 about the soccer field, and a possible fence around the facility. The neighbors adjacent have seen an unwelcome change since the new soccer surface was completed.

I wonder why there is a fence along the Palms Blvd side, near the baseball fields.

I saw your item about the fences at the school in Palms. I'm used to seeing fences at schools, so am wondering what you folks think is so bad.

[Editor's note: Palms Park has made noises about organizing an Advisory Board but we haven't heard much about it recently.

[As for fences across the front of local schools, you will NOT find any at Mar Vista Elementary, Clover Ave. Elementary, Charnock Drive Elementary, Overland Ave. Elementary, Palms Middle, University High, Venice High or Notre Dame Academy.]

CLEANING UP PALMS, ONE REACH AT A TIME

I’d like to see Palms a CLEANER place to live also. I use a reacher to pick up trash — no bending!

THE PLACE OF THE MOVIES IN A PALMS WOMAN'S LIFE

Our new October Web site is up!  It's all about movies — the place of movies in my life, favorite movies over the decades, the use of movies in church, and an interview with my son, Robert LaRoe, a serious movie lover.  Just go to www.billiesilvey.com

Hope you enjoy it.
