EVERYBODY PLANT A PALM FOR PALMS, CALIFORNIA!

I live in Palms on Glendon Avenue between Venice and Charnock. I bought a condo/townhome two years ago. I love the neighborhood. The streets are all getting repaved, and the property values are soaring. I work in Culver City. The Culver Center has been completely renovated, as you know, and I shop there.

Will you or someone have a summary of the chief’s visit of Sept 30 on your Web site. What did he promise or what questions were asked?

I suggest if you can have a statement that everyone living in Palms plant a palm in their yard or plant one in a pot in your balcony or patio, because we are Palms, California. I have two potted palms.

Thank you for your Web site, and keep up the good work.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEB SITE!

Dear Mr. Garrigues,

Thank you for inviting me to visit your Web site about the city of Palms. I had a wonderful time viewing it and will certainly refer it to our volunteers and staff to visit as well.

I hope you enjoyed your visit this past weekend to the museum. We look forward to seeing you again.

CHARNOCK ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

My name is Cindy Miller and I am the assistant principal at Charnock Road Elementary School. It has been my joy to be working at this school for the last 20 years in many capacities.

I would like to take this opportunity to share with your organization the good news about our wonderful and very successful elementary school.

  • Last year, we were recognized by our state and our nation as a high-achieving school. Charnock Road received the 2003 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Title I Achieving Schools Award. We were one of only thirteen schools in all of Los Angeles Unified School District to be so honored.

  • Also, we have received much recognition from the neighborhood and our local district for the beautiful campus that we maintain. . . . As you may have noticed, a former student and uncle of a student currently enrolled in our school designed and painted the four favorite books covers of a much-loved teacher (who died this winter) on the backboards of our handball courts.

These fantastic murals are visual representation of our school's commitment to quality education and a love of learning.

  • Elizabeth Calvert, the principal who led and inspired our school for the last three years, was promoted this summer to the District's downtown headquarters to the office of Secondary Instructional Redesign Team. We now are pleased to welcome Mr. Thomas Kaminski. Mr. Kaminski having been at the realm of one of Brentwood-Palisades charter schools, brings with him a commitment to building academic excellence as well as enhanced community involvement.
  • While slightly smaller in enrollment than those elementary schools that surround us, we celebrate a very supportive and diverse student body population. (There are more than 25 languages identified on our home surveys.) We see ourselves as a microcosm of Los Angeles itself.

I look forward to being able to share more good news with you and your organization in the future. We hope that you will support our efforts in getting these accomplishments out to the neighborhood through your association. We hope you will share the news about our terrific school. We feel as if we are the best kept secret in the area.

Sincerely,

Cindy Miller

POLICY ANALYST WITH CHARTER REFORM COMMISSION

I am interested in signing the petition for Neighborhood Council certification for Palms. As a policy analyst for the elected L.A. Charter Reform Commission from January 1998 to June 1999, I was involved in drafting the reports that led to the placement of Article IX in the charter. I am a renter in the area, so perhaps my signature would help to demonstrate the broader involvement of Stakeholders in the proposed Palms NC.

WESTSIDE VILLAGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION

Dear Mr. Garrigues,

The Westside Village Civic Association was organized in the early 1960s to serve residents of single-family homes in the Westside Village area. The WVCA constitution restricts its membership to those residing in single family homes in the area. Therefore, you are not eligible for membership since you reside at [address omitted], which is an apartment complex. I appreciate your interest in the organization, and am sorry we can not accommodate your request [to join the Westside Village Civic Association].

Sincerely,

Charles West
