BLOCK PARTY
Apartment people put on a really big show

A group of Woodbine Street residents and their friends got together for a well-attended party on Saturday, April 28, just east of Palms Middle School. What made the event unusual was that the block is composed entirely of apartment buildings and the tenants not only pulled off the festive event but also planted trees for the future good of the community.

Tree People of Los Angeles were out in force to plant saplings in the parkways. Top row, Lisa Cahill of Westside Village shows the volunteers how to dig and plant.

Marina Gonzalez, left, was the sparkplug for the event. The street was partially blocked off for the occasion. Right, kids await the signal to begin a pie-eating contest.

A family time
Left, folks watched the action in an inflated bouncer. Right, this apartment-sized dog, with a stuffed toy on its back, awaited the start of the Doggie Parade.
