AMAZON A9 BETA PROJECT HAS PALMS ON ITS MAP
Amazon.com has been photographing store fronts on commercial streets all over the country as part of a project to beef up its business-map offerings. You have to go to http://maps.a9.com, click on Los Angeles, CA, and then type in an address. If the street has been photographed by an Amazon camera mounted on the top of a car, you'll get a page similar to the one above. When you move the magnifier on the map on the left, or click on the field to the bottom right, you can figuratively "walk down the block."

Or you can enlarge the small image to get a big one, like that just below.

You can see a reflection of the Amazon.com sedan, with a camera mounted on its roof, in the window of this antiques shop on Motor Ave. just south of the post office.

Below is a photo of Palms Elementary School, probably shot on the same day from the top of the same car. You should be able to get there by clicking here, although Amazon A9 does not work with all browsers. It's still buggy.
If you've got a spare hour, you can poke around most of the commercial streets in Palms, although the coverage is not complete. Go to this News.com page to read more about the project.
