Palms's first Representative Assembly is installed, and then the president resigns
Less than a week after the first installation of Palms's new Representative Assembly, Neighborhood Council President Len Nguyen, far right, has announced that he is resigning his position to accept a job as a field deputy for new City Councilman Bill Rosendahl.

Leaving after three years as leader and principal organizer of the Council, he will be replaced in the top position by Vice President Todd Robinson, standing next to Nguyen. Robinson will be president until at least the next election, in May 2006.

Other Representative Assembly members seated at the installation meeting of the Palms Neighhborhood Council June 21 in the IMAN Center were, from left, Ingeborg Prochazka, John Riordan, Mario Bruhwiler, Lori Donahoo, Asad Yavari, Billie Silvey, Willie Bell, Alejandro Soschin, George Garrigues and Danny Monempour.

General Manager Greg Nelson of the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (below) spoke. On the right you see what was left of the refreshments at the end of the meeting. The dates refer to the annexation of Palms to Los Angeles in 1915 and its certification as a neighborhood council in December 2005.

The meeting of the Palms Representative Assembly was preceded by a meeting of the Palms-Westside Village Neighborhood Watch, at which representatives of a proposed apartment-commercial project at Palms and Motor Ave. gave a brief presentation.

Additional details about the Palms-Motor project will be presented at a regular meeting of the Palms Neighborhood Council/Assembly at a later date.

The minutes of the June 21 Representative Assembly meeting are on the official Web site, here.

The agenda for the forthcoming Wednesday, July 13, meeting of the Palms Neighborhood Council and the Representative Assembly are on the official Web site, here.

MISSING BIRDS
MISSING SIDEWALK
"On Saturday, June 25th, my two cockatiels got out of their cage and flew off. The yellow ones name is 'Toby' and he will whistle the tune to the 'Andy Griffith Show' slightly . . . . Please call 'Lauren' @ 310-839-9498. . . . I've had him for 15 years."
Residents of the Overland District have been complaining about the way these cars block what would be a sidewalk if there were one. The problem is on Washington between Motor and Mentone. The block, zoned for commercial, contains a restaurant, a sign shop and a second-hand store. Pedestrians have to leave L.A. and walk into the Culver City street to get around the obstruction.
